The release of the Tilly and the Buttons Romy dress/top coincided with my next blog post for Sewalicious. It felt like a perfect moment to make it up. I looked at all the jerseys on the Sewalicious website and this nautical print was my favourite. This fabric can be used for children and also the big kids out there, myself included
On arrival the fabric screamed quality and softness. This jersey was stable enough for this make and hangs well. The recovery in this jersey is great. It pings back and doesn’t lose its shape. Out of all the fabrics I’ve used from Sewalicious this has been my favourite.
I was so excited to get sewing with this, I actually cut it out whilst making tea and had it sewn up after the children had gone to bed. All in all it took two and a half hours to complete. I scratched my head a few times on the placement of the neck ties. I played around until it clicked. This pattern has plenty of ease to play with. This dress is so comfy and casual and is so on trend.
Pattern Version made I made the dress in a size 14 with tie backs.
Fabric prep I was naughty and didn’t wash it as I loved it that much, I went straight in. I have since washed it and it has stayed the same. I used a rotary cutter and mat with pattern weights and pins.
Notions clear elastic.
Fit True to size with ease. Really comfortable and a great length.
Difficulty This was a little tricky on the placement of the back ties but after a few attempts I got there.
Top tips Use wonder clips.
Sewing time This was cut and sewn in 2.5 hours.
Why did I make it This pattern was hot off the sewing scene and this nautical fabric screamed Romy.
What would I do differently next time I would have a go at contrast binding. I would also like to have a go at adding some in seam pockets because I love a good pocket.
Would I make it again Absolutely this is a wardrobe staple and doesn’t need a lot of fabric to make it.
Favourite thing about this make The back ties they are so pretty and it looks like a garment from the high street.
Hope this blog post has made you want to have a go at making this. I was provided this fabric in exchange for this blog post in my own words.
